Singapore

I took the airport shuttle to my hostel cause I was tired and didn't
feel like dealing with finding the place and lugging my bag around in
the heat (REALLY humid here). It was S$9 and was air conditioned, nice
and took me to my door.

Betel Box hostel - S$20 dorm
Despite the name it's pretty good. Pros: Staff is really nice, free
wifi, 30 min free on their computers, air conditioning, nice common
area. Cons: 20 bed dorm can be noisy, breakfast is just ok (toast with
spreads and basic fruits - apples oranges bananas), locations isn't
very good - far out of the city and 10-15min walk to the subway.
There's lots of good food around though and tons of KTV (karaoke) bars
swarming with Asians if you're into that.

I looked at a ton of other hostels in the little India area and they
were mediocre at best. The Inn Crowd looked like the best but the
common area was really small, the rooms looked cramped and there was a
recent review online that complained of bed bugs. So I stayed at Betel
Box for 5 nights. It's been really tough to leave western
civilization...

Singapore sights: the esplanade is pretty cool at night, so is Clark
Quay. Nearby Boat Quay has a ton of restaurants on the river.
Fullerton Hotel looks AWESOME (expensive). China town and little India
are both worth a couple hours each. Wanted to go up to the sky park at
the Marina Bay Sands but heard it was S$25 and you weren't allowed to
swim in the pool. Thought about getting a "Singapore Sling"
(cocktail), at the Raffles hotel where it was invented but it looked
small and was S$25! The area around Bugis St is worth walking around
too. Oh and the National library is a pretty cool building and tall so
it's good for a free view of the city. Alcohol is really expensive
here so I haven't gone out at all.
