BKK pt 2 and Kachinaburi

Flew into BKK and met 3 other guys heading to khao san and we split a
cab, fare ended up being about 500 including tolls. Stayed at Khao San
Palace hotel which has a roof top pool. The rooms in the high rise
building in the back are def nicer and bigger than the ones in the
front I think. Next day we took a shuttle to Kanchinanburi. Booked
through Ris Tours on Khao San from "Ms. Sami" for 400bht round trip.

Kanchinanburi is pretty sweet. Still very touristy but pretty small.
Most tourists seem to just do day trips. We stayed at Chitanun Guest
House for 250bht fan room, cold shower. There were a bunch of places
that were floating hotels on the river that looked really sweet but a
little more expensive, like 350bht. January is definitely low season
in these parts I think. Rented a moped for 200 bht for a day and went
to the Erwan waterfalls which were sweet 200bht entrance fee (7 series
of falls with pools you can swim in). Its 65km from town though which
is a bit of a haul. The next day we tried to go to the tiger temple
35km out of town and got there just after 11am but it didn't open
until 12:15 and I had to catch my shuttle back to BKK at 2:30 so we
didn't have time to wait which was a bummer. Entrance was 600bht
anyway though and rumor has it that they drug the tigers which is bad
for them. Oh well...

Back in BKK a lot of hotels were full but I found a room at "my new
house" which is directly next to Merry V. The room has a private
bathroom and fan and is 200bht per night. The place is pretty nice and
clean and comes with a towel! They had cheaper rooms for 160 that had
shared bathrooms but they were all full. for whatever reason this
place seemed noisier than the Merry V bigot could have just been the
people on my floor (obnoxious drunk brits) overall it was a pretty
good place and I'd stay there again. They had a nice restaurant/lounge
(didn't eat there though) and played movies every night. Merry V and My New House are both straight out of the movie "The Beach", seriously.
