Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia

Took a meter taxi from Khao San to the Mo Chit bus station with 2
Canadian girls for 155bht. Bought a bus ticket at window #22 (I think)
inside the terminal on the first floor to Aranyaprathet for 207bht.
It's an old bus with no bathroom but they gave as a bread and jam
sandwich and water and it has AC and the seats have lots of leg room
and recline a lot. Overall, pretty good. The bus was suppose to leave
at 930am but they switched out buses for some reason and it didn't
leave until a little after 10am. It dropped us at a station 6km from
the boarder with a bunch of tuk tuks that, one took me and 2 girls to
the boarder for 80bht. He tried to take us to a "Cambodian consulate"
twice where they try to scam you into buying a visa from them at
inflated prices. I already had an evisa which I recommend getting.
Just repeatedly insist your driver takes you to the boarder. He
boarder process was easy and didn't take too long but getting from the
boarder to Siem Reap is annoying. There is a taxi mafia that fixes
prices and there's no public bus. When you exit Cambodian immigration
there is a free bus that takes you to the taxi stand and then the taxi
is 48usd to Siem Reap. This is a rip off since our driver told us he'd
drive us from siem reap back to the boarder for $20usd if we were
going back to Thailand! At the taxi stand there is also a bus that
costs $11usd per person I think which would be a good option if you're
alone, not sure how often it runs though. These two are really your
only options. I did meet one guy who managed to get a ride with locals
in the back of a pickup for 150bht though.

Overall, the "scam busses" out of khao San rd might be worth it. I
left khao san at 830am and didn't get to siem reap until 7pm. The
journey went: taxi -> bus -> tuk tuk -> boarder crossing -> shuttle
bus -> taxi and was suppose to include another tuk tuk ride in town
but our driver helped us avoid that hassle. And it cost about $20usd.
I saw a shuttle from khao San that was 350bht and left at 7am and got
in at 7pm. There was also one for 700bht which included a room in Siem
Reap the first night and supposedly got in at 4pm which really might
be the best option anyway. An extra 350bht is a lot for a room in
Cambodia but overall it might be worth it, don't know.
